Fold & Staple is a small browser-based tool for building A5 photo zines and exporting print-ready PDFs.
Basic workflow
- Choose the page count.
- Click or drop images directly onto the page frames.
- Use the layout menus to choose full bleed, bordered, fit-whole-image, stacked, side-by-side or spread layouts.
- Add front cover text, back cover text or a QR code if needed.
- Use Proof mode first if you want to check page order without wasting ink.
- Save the print PDF, then print, fold and saddle-stitch.
Automatic duplex print settings
- Paper: A4
- Orientation: Landscape
- Scale: 100%
- Pages per sheet: 1
- Double-sided: On
- Flip: Short edge
Manual duplex printing
- Set Print export type to Manual duplex: front sides only.
- Save and print the front-side PDF.
- Put the same sheets back into the printer tray.
- Set Print export type to Manual duplex: back sides only.
- Save and print the back-side PDF.
If the reverse side prints upside down, turn on Rotate back sides 180° and save the back-side PDF again.
Flip test PDF
Use Save flip test PDF before printing a full zine on expensive paper. It creates a simple two-page test to help you work out your printer’s manual feed behaviour.
Reading PDF
Save reading PDF exports the zine in normal page order as portrait A5 pages. Use it for checking sequence, sharing digitally, archiving or reviewing crops before printing.
Project files
Save project creates a .foldstaple project file. Use Open project to continue editing later.
QR codes
Back cover QR codes are generated locally. Common formats such as @handle, instagram.com/handle and full https:// links are supported.
Image notes
Large images are resized to a practical A5 print size to keep the app responsive. For ultra-wide images such as 21:9 crops, use:
- Single image, fit whole image
- Two images, stacked fit
- Two images, side by side fit
Privacy
Images are processed locally in the browser. They are not uploaded to a server. Temporary image data is held in the browser tab while the app is open. Use Start again or close the tab to clear the working session.
